Michael John Miller
1945-2022

Michael John Miller, age 77, died on October 3, 2022 at John Muir Hospital. He was born on August 18, 1945 in San Diego, California, the joyful son of Vern Albert Miller and Marian Louise Miller LaTorra. Michael, known for being handsome and kind, graduated from Junipero Serra High School in Santa Clara, class of 1963 where he was a proud member of the varsity football team. Following graduation, he pursued his faith at Saint Joseph Seminary, earning a degree in Philosophy. Constantly thirsting for knowledge, he continued his education by earning a degree in business at San Jose State University in 1972. He followed with a Master’s of Business Administration degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1977.

Michael’s faith and compassion led him to Amigos Anonymous, where for over 50 years his participation followed friendships and a continued dedication to helping the poor in Mexico gain access to an education. During one of his early trips to Mexico, he met his beloved wife of 54 years, Maria Guadalupe Miller Nunez. They were married in Moroleon Mexico in 1968 and continued to be an exemplary model of a loving relationship through all the days of his life. Michael supported his family and thrived as a business administrator for Tate and Lyle for over 30 years. In his free time, he was dedicated to helping the poor. He volunteered helping the unhoused at The Gathering Inn in Roseville California and at St. Vincent de Paul in Walnut Creek. California. Michael was an avid reader who actively continued his studies of philosophy and religions of the world throughout his entire adult life.

In addition to his parents, Michael was predeceased by his adored daughter Julieta Maria Calderon. He is survived by his devoted wife Maria Guadalupe Miller; his daughter Michelle Miller and her two children Isabel and Lucas; his daughter Cynthia Kieffer, her husband Gabriel Kieffer and their two children Joaquin and Amira; his son-in-law Rodolfo Calderon and four children Arianna, Rodolfo Miguel, Cecilia and Vanessa and three grandchildren Ayla, Anastasia, and Kiyla; his brother David Miller and his wife Connie Miller; his sister Marilyn Rosetti and her husband Fred Rosetti; his sister Joanie Hardwick and Paul Hardwick; and many nieces and nephews.

Michael John Miller gave us the greatest gift there is; he was a guidepost to how to live life. He loved the outdoors and good food. He lived an active adventurous life on his terms. He was well read and well traveled; a great wealth of stories and tips for those who inquired. He was the first to pitch in, always supportive, and ensured gratitudes were shared wherever he went. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a caring son and brother, a trustworthy friend and a giant of a man, in both size and spirit. He will live on in our cherished memories and in his father’s Kingdom.
