Sandra Lee (Tom) Busby
24 July 1943 - 23 August 2015
Sandy was a valued member of the Amigos Anonymous’ Morelia, Michoacan project during the summer of 1965, where she worked with other Amigas delivering public health care to underserved families in the area.
Sandy graduated from Fairmont Nursing School/Chabot College and worked for many years at St. Rose Hospital in Hayward. She lived in Union City where she raised four children: Michelle, Christine, Joseph and Bobby. Sandy became very good friends with several neighboring couples with whom she continued a close relationship over the past 50 years.
Sandy’s generous and loving spirit was always evident in the special way she hosted gatherings at her home, and in the wonderfully creative and delicious foods she would bring to parties.
In 1993 Sandy gave up her job and the comfort of life in the USA, relocating to a small town in Chiapas, Mexico where she volunteered to oversee housing for young, Mayan girls so that they could further their education beyond the level available in their remote villages.
After returning to the USA, Sandy located in Benicia, fulfilling a dream to own and decorate a Victorian style house. Everyone who visited her home, especially during the Christmas season and other holidays, could see the special gifts Sandy had for art, crafts and decorating.
On a gorgeous sunny day in September 2007, she married John Busby at a beautiful ceremony at the Auberge de Soliel, overlooking the Napa valley.
Sandy is survived by her husband John, six adult children, nine grandchildren, and two siblings.
